About Educational Development & Research

The department of Educational Development & Research was founded in 1977. The department is part of the Education Institute of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML).

The missions of the department in general are:

  • to support educational development;
  • to offer educational training programmes;
  • to conduct educational research.

The department provides educational service or support on educational development activities to all training programmes in FHML. The department is divided into sections each representing expertise areas. These include: faculty development, assessment and quality management, e-learning.

Part of the mission of the department is also to provide educational training programmes. One master's programme is offered: a distance-based Master Degree in Health Professions Education. Furthermore, several national and international short courses on education are provided. Most of these activities are delivered through a graduate school programme: the School of Health Professions Education (SHE). For information on the school’s activities we refer to the SHE-website.

A final part of the mission of the department is educational research. Two major topics are design of innovative learning programmes and assessment of professional competence. More information can be found on the SHE-website.
